Knowing how important the arts are to Park Forest, Bigelow Homes recently held a poster contest that rewarded not only the winners, but also art programs at the schools they attend.
"Art is a key ingredient in the culture of our community and everywhere else," said Janet Muchnik, president of the Tall Grass Arts Association in Park Forest. "Most schools have had to limit or eliminate their art programs. And companies, like Bigelow, who are willing to support school programs are extremely important."
Bigelow Homes is currently completing a new community of 63 homes, priced from $153,383 - $196,477, called Legacy Square. The development is part of the Village's DownTown renovation project.
To participate in the contest, students were asked to complete the sentence "Park Forest is....". Contestants were divided into three grade groups: K-1st grade, 2nd-3rd grade, and 4th-5th grade. First, second, and third-place prizes of $150, $100, and $50 were awarded in each grade group.
Also, schools with first-place winning students were awarded $500 for their student art programs. The first-place winning posters were framed and are being displayed as artwork in the Legacy Square models.
First-place winners were: Melia Spearman, in the K-1st grade category; Sophia Lam, in the 2nd-3rd grade category; and Fatima Yamout, in the 4th-5th grade category.
"We appreciate the contribution that arts programs make to schools," said Jamie Bigelow, president of Bigelow Homes. "We were glad to help in any way we could."
Legacy Square features homes with 2-4 bedrooms, 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 baths and a square footage range of 1,170 - 1,732. Each home comes with an attached two-car garage.
Amenities include: kitchens with Aristokraft hidden-hinged cabinets, built-in pantries per plan, and GE gas oven/ranges and dishwashers; and bathrooms with cultured marble vanities, integral bowls and king-sized mirrors. Also included are large linen and guest closets, low-E energy-saving windows and brush nickel light fixtures.
All models include either a front porch or patio. Buyers can select options such as brick-front exteriors, covered front porches, upgraded bathrooms, cathedral ceilings, oak railings, fireplaces, and a popular guest suite.
The downtown development is within walking distance of a library, art gallery, movie theater, performing arts center, a supermarket and a Pace Bus stop.
These homes will be especially appealing to existing Park Forest residents who want to stay in their community while enjoying all the latest features contemporary homes have to offer such as big closets, well-designed kitchens, and lower-energy bills.
Legacy Square visitors can tour four fully decorated models, review floor plans, discuss standard luxury features and add-on options, and go over details with a salesperson.
Legacy Square is located near the intersection of Orchard Dr. and Main St. in the heart of downtown Park Forest. The sales office is located at 368 Main St., Park Forest. To get there Take I-57 South to U.S.30; turn east on U.S.30 and continue to Orchard Drive; turn right on Orchard and continue to Main St. For more information, those interested can call Legacy Square at (888) 203-0487.
